Thursday Junk Report

It's Thursday, so that means my Mom, sister & I went out for breakfast, then went treasure hunting. We really enjoy our Thursdays. The day is set in stone as OUR day to hang out! My Mom is 84 years old, but boy does she still like to shop! We went to a resale shop, and I only found these two planters. The white one is USA pottery, and the rooster is an old unmarked piece that I have been eye-balling for 6 months. It was finally marked down to my price! I had to plant some violas in them right away.
My sister Mary gave me this old stove burner thingy, and the huge coffee can. We always pass along things that we don't want anymore to each other. I think I know what I want to do with these...

I'll put a plant in it, and set it on the front porch, when it's warm enough for houseplants to be outside. That probably won't be until the end of May! There are several garage sales this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed for good luck and good weather. Hope the sun shines for you in your part of the world!

Great Weekend Finds and Getting the Porches Ready For Summer

I went to 2 church rummage sales over the weekend. Although I didn't get alot, I'm quite happy with what I did get. The price tag on the curtains said that they were card table cloths. I thought they were cute, so I grabbed them. When I got home, I realized they were curtains. They fit perfectly on the back door. I'm pretty excited about that wrinkle remover, 25 cents, because I've always wanted one. The little girl condiment holder is so cute, and made in Japan, 25 cents. The yellow pottery vase was 50 cents, the big tray 50 cents, four small trays 25 cents for all, pink plastic reamer 25 cents, fabric and plastic flowers 25 cents each.

This past weekend was so warm that I got the itch to start decorating the porches for summer. I know, it's only April, and it could still snow! I painted this bench white(it was blue, and I really should start taking BEFORE shots), and I made the cushion and pillows. It took a while, since my sewing machine is broke. So I sewed it all by hand! It still went pretty quickly though. The metal plant stands were rusty black, and the little shoeshine stool was brown. I can't wait to make a new cushion and pillows for the porch swing!

Are Antique Stores History?

Every Thursday, my Mom, my sister and I go out to breakfast, and then we go antiquing. Yesterday, we went to one of our favorite stores, and alot of the booths had 50% off. Now normally this would be something to get excited about. Ok, I was excited until I noticed that there were alot of empty booths as well. I keep hearing that Ebay is killing the antique stores, and I'm starting to believe it. Nevertheless, I got all of this for $17, so I left feeling pretty good. The picnic basket is an addition to a newly-started and already out of control collection. It's not my usual taste as far as color, but for the price and extra storage, I couldn't pass it up. The tray is so pretty, and the pottery is McCoy. $6 for the pair! WOW! I hope you all have a great weekend, and good luck if you are going to be out there looking for treasures, like me!

When There Are No Garage Sales...

And there's nothing good at the thrift stores, I go nuts on Ebay! A girl needs her treasures! I'm sure you understand. One day, the mailman had 3 packages for me. It felt like Christmas! The lovebirds and birdhouse are wall pockets, the kitty is a planter, and isn't that breadbox cute?! Pardon the plastic on the kitchen table, but there's a vintage tablecloth under there. There's no way we could keep that thing clean! Well, there are 2 church sales this coming weekend. Wish me luck, so I don't have to troll Ebay anymore!

Apothecary Jars & Plastic Flowers

I have loved apothecary jars since I was a kid, and actually have one of my grandma's (second from left). There's really no explaining why I like plastic flowers. I know most people think that they are tacky, and they're probably right! I've had a hard time finding them around here. You would think that they would be easy to find at garage sales and flea markets, but that's just not the case. Maybe people thought that they were so awful looking that they just threw them out! Several of the flowers are from the incredibly generous Barbara

Got Lucky At The Thrift!

I found these at my favorite thrift store yesterday. They've got a couple dings, but at $2 a piece, I couldn't bear to leave them behind! And, I NEVER find pottery at the thrift stores around here, so I was doubly surprised! Someone tried touching up the blue one with paint nowhere near the right color, so I'll try to scratch that off. There is finally a garage sale tomorrow! On Easter weekend. Hopefully everyone will be too busy to go, and I will end up with all the treasures!!

Blog List

Just updating my blog list! I follow a ton more, but these are the blogs that I come back to again and again. If you're looking for inspiration, check these out!

Bunny Hop

I wish I had more vintage Easter decorations, but I love the thrill of the hunt, so maybe this garage sale season I'll get lucky!

I painted this pail a couple years ago.

I love this vintage chick pick, with her sassy plastic bonnet!

I know this bunny isn't very Eastery, but I like her anyway. She's made out of an old handkerchief and a vintage pin with rhinestones. She's blingy!

This basket was mine when I was little. It's ooooold!

Tres Chic

Ok, maybe I meant TRAY chic! Here is a peek at one of my many collections. Several of these came from the wonderful Laurie at Magpie Ethel (please see blog list. I haven't figured out yet how to add a link properly!) A disclaimer: No dust bunnies were harmed in the making of this post!

The pink tray is in the bathroom. Guess where I had to sit to get that shot?

Welcome to Old Glory Cottage

Well, I fought this for too long, so I'm gonna jump right in! My name is Carol, I'm married and we have one daughter, who is in college. I collect vintage kitchenware, pottery, and watering cans, just to name a few of my many collections. I love going to garage sales, thrift and antique stores, and I'll be sharing my finds with you. I hope you'll follow me as I endeavor to transform our home, inside and out, into the cottage of my dreams!
