The Glitter Cottage Assembly Line

Last year, after Christmas, I bought a bunch of these paper mache houses. I had seen lots of pretty, glittery cottages on blogs, so I was determined to give it a try. I think they'll look great with my old bottlebrush trees. I started painting them a couple of weeks ago, and decorating them as I go along.

These are the first three on the assembly line. That aqua one needs something up there on the dormers. They all need alot more embellishing!

And here are the next three. The one on the right needed a little peephole so the occupants could see who was at the door, so I cut an opening.

Here are some of the adornments. Lots of glitter....

sparkly pipecleaners, and lots and lots of buttons! Because as my daughter Liz always says, buttons make everything cuter! Now I need to get back to work at the glitter factory! Check back soon, to see The Glitter Cottages, on Sparkle Street! Sounds like a hoity toity subdivision, doesn't it?!

Fire King And McKee Jadite-VTT

It's time for VTT, where we all share our vintage stuff at Coloradolady, where Suzanne is our wonderful hostess!

Today I'm sharing my collection of Jadite glassware. Jadite refers to the green color of the glassware. I used to have more, but I sold alot of it on Ebay. My little kitchen can only hold so much! Fire King jadite was made in the 40s by Anchor Hocking. McKee Glass Company was started in 1843. Here we have a large McKee measuring pitcher.

These are both Fire King mixing bowls.

I believe this one is called a batter bowl. It's Fire King.

These S&P shakers are always very expensive at antique stores, so we have stopped using them! I would hate to have to pay $35 to replace one of them! Isn't that ridiculous?

A McKee juice reamer.

This is a big canister made by McKee.

A little Fire King creamer, and I don't know what the other piece is. Maybe a sugar bowl. I've never seen Fire King pieces with decals on them.

The other side of the sugar bowl. Sure wish I knew if it was made this way, or if someone added the decals later. Anyone know?

A set of Fire King plates. I believe the pattern is called Jane Ray.

And finally we have three Fire King cups. I'll have a cup of tea in these once in a while, otherwise they just sit in the cupboard. Well that's it for me. Now head on over to Suzanne's to see more vintage things!

Vintage Christmas Stuff For Rednesday!

It's that wonderful day of the week again that we red lovers look forward to! When you're done looking at my reds, please head over to It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue so kindly hosts this party every week. I found the following items at a thrift store this past weekend. Whoever thought that saving the best for last was a good thing is, well, wrong! I have to show you my most favorite Christmas find first!

I just love this thing! It's the most perfect vintage Christmas decoration to me! It says Relco, Made in Japan on the bottom.

And if you look closely, you can see that those little holes are for tiny candles, I believe. Probably little birthday candles would fit in the holes.

I also got these two sweet deer, also made in Japan. Guess what? It's official. I have a collection of these! I have another one packed away and all I have to do is find it!

I fell in love with this old flannel stocking too. The snowman are so cute and vintagey, just how I like them!

A close-up of one of the snowmen.

And last but not least, some more wonderfully tacky vintage plastic Christmas decor, which I love!

A close-up of one of the flocked, glittery birds. Fabulous!
Now here's my thought: Why put these things away? I'll only have to dig them out again in approximately 2 weeks, and I run the risk of putting them somewhere and forgetting where I put them. You know that you do that too! So why not? What do YOU think?

Kreativ Blogger Award!

Maureen at The Green Suitcase recently gave me this award, and it's taken me this long to share seven things about myself that wouldn't scare you all away! ;-) Then I need to pass the award on to seven blogs. Ok, here goes:

1. I had a severe case of salmonella in my 20s. I should have been in the hospital, but I had no insurance at the time. My Dad kept me going with apple juice and popsicles. I hate apple juice to this day, but still love popsicles! But now I am a bit of a germaphobe. My husband would say a BIG germaphobe!

2. I am addicted to Lifetime movies. The trashier the better!

3. I like bugs! I loved it when we were inundated with cicadas a few years ago!

4. I am so severely allergic to dust that I have to wear a mask when dusting, then either get out of the house for a couple of hours afterwards, or continue to wear the mask for 2 hours after I'm done dusting. If I don't do this, I will get a terrible headache that keeps me in bed all day. That is why my home is so dusty sometimes. If I leave it alone, it's ok, but if I stir it up, there's trouble!

5. I am terrified of iceburgs. Crazy right? Thankfully there are no iceburgs in Illinois!

6. Have you ever seen those signs that say Nice Matters? I try to be nice to everyone I encounter, and always try to leave nice comments on blogs. When someone is rude to me, I tend to take it personally. I'm trying to work on that, and accept people for who they are, but mean people really do stink!

7. My dream is to move to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It's my most favorite place in the world! I want to live in a little cottage in the woods, on a dirt road, near water like a creek or pond, and see deer every day, hear the coyotes howl at night, and maybe run into a bear while out for a walk in the woods. Wouldn't that be exciting?!

Well, I could go on and on, but it's probably already too much information! Thank you Maureen for this award! I had fun doing this post. Now I shall pass on this award to the following blogs that I love. Please visit them if you get a chance, and also visit Maureen's blog too. She's great at turning trash into treasures!

Janelle @ Sweet Bee Cottage
Laurie @ Magpie Ethel
Barbara @ Oodles and Oodles
Ann @ Protector of Vintage
Pam @ One Gal's Trash
Sandy @ 521 Lake Street
Jacqueline @ Once Upon A Fairyland

Weekend Finds, A Redo, And A Redon't!

Our daughter Liz came home from college for the weekend, and she redid my blog for me! Thank you so much Lizzy! You know I couldn't do it without you!
Well it's that sad time of the year, where there are either a couple of garage sales, or none at all. Pickings were very slim, and all I got was the old tray, above.

And I got this old needle book. One more, and it will officially be a collection! Another collection. Yay!

I got this fan a couple of weeks ago at a garage sale, for $2. Here's where the "redon't" comes in.

I've seen these old fans on Ebay, and on blogs too, with the blue base. So I decided that I would just spraypaint the base blue. Now I've seen one with the blades blue too. So now I think I want to try somehow to paint the blades blue too. At the same time, I wish I had just left it the way it was. Do you ever do that? Jump into a project and then regret it?

Do you remember Fifi, my little cement poodle statue that I found at the curb, minus it's little tail?

I decided to give her a coat of white paint, and a red collar with pearls, along with a dog tag. Doesn't she look so much cuter, so French poodle-ish? It was one of those projects where you know you should be doing something more important, like doing the laundry, or giving the cat a bath, but it was so nice out, and Fifi was crying out for a more flattering look!

I bought this yarn a few weeks ago at Michaels. I fell in love with the colors. This one is called Harvest. Well, a few hours later.....

I had a nice scarf to go along with this quilted jacket that I thrifted for $1......

and these slippers too. I "retaught" myself to knit last fall on YouTube. You sure can learn alot on YouTube! I used the simplest slipper pattern that I could find, just to get myself back into knitting. Now I'd like to try something a little more complicated, like a sweater. I love every single color of the Homespun brand, and I see Michaels has it 2/$7 this week. Hmmmmm. Well, that's what I've been up to. How about you?!

Gurley Candles and Beistle Turkey for VTT

Please visit Suzanne's blog, Coloradolady, to see everyone's vintage things!

Did any of you grow up with these Gurley pilgrim candles? I know I did, and I loved to play with them. Unfortunately these aren't the ones from my childhood. My Mom still has those. But my daughter loved to play with these, and they all have names, but I won't embarrass my daughter by telling you them!

These two are the son and daughter of the couple above. Gosh, I wish I could tell you their names, because they're so funny! But I won't.

Here we have an old Beistle honeycomb turkey. This guy is huge, about 18" tall. I got him at a garage sale for 10 cents.

This is a banner hanging in our dining room It's not vintage, but it reminds us to give thanks for all that we have!

This book isn't vintage either, but it's destined to be a classic! I finally got it from the library, after a 2 month wait! I'm only about halfway through it, and already I've discovered so many wonderful blogs in it! And it's packed with helpful tips on blogging. Not just the technical side, but also the emotional side of blogging as well. I think I'm going to have to add this book to my Christmas list! Now how about swinging on over to Suzanne's, to check out some more vintage stuff??

Reds From The Kitchen For Rednesday!

It's time for Rednesday, that day where we all share our love of the color red, and our hostess is Sue at It's A Very Cherry World!

Today I'm sharing some reds from the kitchen, and I didn't realize it until I was uploading the pictures, that they're all fruity! These are two little jars, probably about 5" tall, and their only job is to sit there and look pretty!

Next is a matchholder. I have no idea how old it is, but it has a small circle with 29 inside it. I don't put matches in it though. It would be a shame to strike a match across that cuteness!

Finally, we have an old, very chippy little shelf, which sits on top of the fridge. And some little S&P shakers, and old spice tins. I wish spices were still sold in tins, don't you? I hate plastic. Well, not all plastic. I like vintage plastic. Vintage plastic buttons, vintage plastic flowers, vintage plastic doll furniture....but I digress! If you would like to see more reds, check out Sue's wonderful blog!
