Vintage Thingies Thursday!

It's VTT time! Please join me over at Coloradolady, where Suzanne hosts this great party, and you can visit lots of other blogs featuring great vintage things. Between VTT, Rednesday and Vintage Christmas Monday, I'm having a hard time stretching out the rest of my Christmas stuff between all of these great parties!

Here we have three little angels, all Made in Japan, that I picked up at one thrift shop. Each time I would go back, I would find one. I hoped it would keep going like that, but I only found these three!

This is an Ardco, Made In Japan snowman. I was really happy to find him, because I only have a couple snowmen, and none of them are old.

And finally, these packs of gum aren't vintage, but the brands are! There is an old-timey drugstore a few towns away from me, and I always try to remember to grab a couple packs of this gum. Do you remember these? Richard the Bewildered Brit recently did a post on old brands of gum, and I've wanted to chew some ever since! Blackjack was always my favorite! Unfortunately they were out of Teaberry and Beamans. I've since been told that I can get these old brands at Cracker Barrel too! Now please head over to Suzanne's!
Merry Christmas!!

Wednesday Is Rednesday!

Please join me over at It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue hosts this fun red party every week!

First I have a set of little candleholders, Made In Japan. I kept seeing alot of great things that people were finding at Goodwill, so I decided to give mine a try. I usually don't find anything, so I call it Badwill, but this time I had good luck and actually found alot of things. These were in a bag for 99 cents! Pardon the boxes of Twilight candy, but they stay in that bookcase all the time, with the books. It's probably very wrong to have my beloved Maeve Binchy books right next to vampire books, isn't it?

I found two more Santa boots, so it's official: I have a collection of Santa boots!

This is the tiniest kneehugger I've ever seen! He's only 3" from his bottom to the tip of his pointy little hat. I have no idea where I'm going to put him, but.....

I know for sure he's not going in here, with all the big guys! He's not ready for that yet!

And finally, nothing exciting, just a poinsettia potholder, but I just love it! It's the little things, isn't it? Ok, now please head over to Sue's to see lots more red!

Vintage Christmas Monday!

Time again to share our vintage Christmas things over at Anything Goes Here, where Joan hosts this great party! There will be only one more after this one, unless Joan decides to extend it, so join in today!

This is a Relpo flocked Christmas girl. I'm not at all sure that's the original umbrella she is holding in her hand, but will you look at that fabulous, huge bag in her other hand?! I would definitely carry a bag like that!

This is an old candelabra, which I've been hoping to find for a while, and finally did! It seems that if you wait long enough, stuff like this will eventually come around. I know that it might look like ones that can be bought in the dollar stores, but it's not.

I love the detail on the base. Now all I need to do is find some old bulbs like these, in different colors. I would love to find some in pink!

And finally we have some old ornaments that my sister made, waaaayyyy back in the 70s. She gave them to my daughter Liz when she was little, because she loved The Wizard Of Oz, and would watch it over and over. We have the scarecrow,

and the cowardly lion,

and the tin man. Well, that's all for me. Now please head over to Joan's to see a list of all the other participants and their vintage Christmas things!

Where Did The Time Go?!?!

Twenty-one years ago today, at 8:10 PM, this little girl came reluctantly into the world. I say reluctantly because she was nine days overdue!

She has always been an afffectionate little sweetheart.

She has always been into fashion!

We considered her an early Christmas present, and she's been a joy ever since! If she wasn't our daughter, she'd still be someone that I'd want to know.

She's so smart, funny, kind and talented. And she's so beautiful, inside and out.
Happy Birthday Elizabeth Holly!!!

Rednesday Time!

It's Rednesday! Time to share your love of the color red, and join me at It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue hosts this great party every week.

Guess What! I know you're not going to believe this, but I think I'm running out of Christmas stuff to show! No, really! Above is a picture of the tablecloth on our dining room table. Sorry I couldn't show you the whole table, but I'm using it as my wrapping station today!

An old card box. I'm having so much fun collecting old greeting cards, and I've recently acquired a taste for the boxes too.

Two old trays, and a tinsel tree on the kitchen counter.

A big Santa head hanging on the front door skeleton key. The key always stays in the door, because it's the only copy of it that we have.

Two old cross stitched pillows that I recently got at a thrift shop. The shop is run by senior citizens, and the cashier told me that she remembers making them in the 60s, she believes.

I think they're supposed to be Christmas pillows, but I'm not sure. They look Christmasy to me! Well, nothing very exciting to show this week. The thrift stores have been very disappointing this year for vintage Christmas things. I think I'll go antiquing on Thursday, and see if I can find something exciting, although the weather isn't looking to good. It's sleeting right now, and it's only supposed to be 14 degrees on Thursday. Winter has finally decided to show up!
Happy Rednesday!!

Vintage Christmas Monday!!

Monday is my favorite day of the week now, ever since Joan at Anything Goes Here started the Vintage Christmas Monday party! It's where we all share our vintage Christmas treasures, and Joan would like to invite YOU to join in too!

First we have a bunch of kneehugger elves that I have captured in this apothecary jar.

This little guy actually has his nosed pressed against the glass, trying to get out. Sorry li'l guy, you're in there 'til the second week in January, or thereabouts!

Next is a little girl with her arms full of packages. I so hope that the antique stores have all of their Christmas stuff half off on the day after, because I want more of these little girl figurines!

A "tacky" plastic plaque, with some old reindeer.

I found this plastic garland at a garage sale this past summer, and actually remembered where I put it, so that I could hang it on the mirror over the fireplace, with some bottlebrush wreaths.

A closer look at the garland and bottlebrush wreaths. So hard to get a decent picture of a mirror without having the cheesy Christmas movie on Lifetime that I'm watching reflected in it! Now head over to Joan's for a list of the other vintage partyers!

Estate Sale Finds and Glitter Everywhere!

I went to a pretty good estate sale Friday morning. I love estate sales, but you sure do have to work hard to get the deals! First my friend Nancy and I got to the sale at 7:45 AM in order to be the first to sign the sign-up sheet which would be put out at 8AM. Then we walked around Target for half an hour, then drove back to the sale in order to be there half an hour before they opened so that we could be parked right in front of the house and wouldn't have to stand outside in 29 degree weather. Whew, what an ordeal! Was it worth it? Yes! I love this old cooler. It reminds me of the metal picnic baskets that I collect.

A close-up of the brand. Hoot mon!

I've been wanting one of these Princess phones, and it was so cheap that whether it works or not, it's still so cute to just have sitting around. Mr. Old Glory, would you pleeeeease try to make it work?

An old Made In Japan Santa. Here is where I just have to talk about rudeness at sales. A woman was practically crawling all over me, trying to get at all of the Christmas stuff and almost taking things out of my hands. I was very tempted to go off on her, but instead I just left the room. Have you ever had an encounter with a rude shopper? What did you do?

A pretty metal basket, probably for sewing.

A box of Shiny Brites, bought just for the box.

I'm buying old Little Golden books from my childhood, or just ones that I remember. I loved these old books so much!

Honestly, I still don't know why I bought this little house. I do know that if I didn't buy it, it would have been on my mind until I could go back the next day and see if it was still there!

A peek inside one of the windows.

And finally, I need some help from you all out there. I've got a bunch of deer, new and old.

These three are old Made in Japan ones, with glitter on them. I decided that I would like to "glitterize" some of the others.

These three turned out ok.

But these two look awful! I don't know why the glitter doesn't want to stick to these. I use Deco Art varnish and then sprinkle the glitter on. What do you use when you are glittering something? Is it because the deer are plastic that it's not working so well? Or am I using the wrong thing to make the glitter adhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Happy Weekend!!
