Carey's Book Party-Some of My Favorites!

I've found someone who loves books as much as I do, and she's throwing a party to celebrate them! Carey, at Chicory Nits, is our hostess. Please visit her when you're finished looking at my books!

I'd like to start with the very first book that I received as a gift. I was very much into horses when I was a little girl, so my sister gave me this book for Christmas. It has beautiful illustrations in it. I eventually got to have a real live horse of my very own!

I've loved Mary Engelbreit forever! Her Outdoor Companion book is my favorite of the many books by her that I have. My daughter and I even got to meet her at a bookstore, just before her amazingly wonderful magazine was launched. We each got free copies of that very first issue, and....

She signed two of our books! I miss her magazine so much, don't you? I'm so glad that I kept the first 3 years of issues, so I can pour over them any time I want!

This book, Anya, is one of my absolute favorite novels. I've read it 3 times! It's about the Holocaust, and I discovered it in high school. I remember in History class, we saw a film about the Holocaust, and I was just so shocked that such a thing had happened and this was the first that I was hearing about it! It started my thirst for knowledge about it, and I've read many books about it since.

This is my favorite Tasha Tudor book.

I just love the pictures of her strolling through her garden, and doing everyday things.

I love these books, written by super-junker Mary Randolph Carter. She shares all of the junk she's found, where she's found it, and other people's junk too.

This is a page from Kitchen Junk. Oh my goodness......

Some of my favorite cookbooks. Funny that I should have so many cookbooks, because I hate to cook!

One of my favorite authors is Maeve Binchy, and I am slowly collecting all of her books in hardcover from thrift stores. I love her stories of small town life in Ireland and England.

I love this whole series by Diana Gabaldon. I've read Outlander, the first book in the series, three times! I love time travel books, and that these books have alot of historical aspects to them as well. I'm also trying to collect this whole series in hardcover too, but they're much harder to come by than the Maeve Binchy books.

And finally we have my favorite gardening book. I have alot of shade to deal with, because of lots of 80 year old pine trees. I can never have a vegetable garden here, unless I want it out by the street!
So there you have it. Just some of my favorite books. I didn't even get to delve into my love of British mysteries. Or my love of Mary Emmerling. Or how about all of the classics I've started collecting? I think Carey needs to have another party!

More Kitchen Reds For REDnesday!

It's time to pull out all of your red stuff and share! When you're done looking at mine, please pop in to It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue is our hostess each and every week.

I scrounged up a couple more reds that I had forgotten about. This little garbage can is pretty rough looking, with lots of rust on the bottom, but it does a magnificent job of holding alot of my candles.

A little red shelf. I remember my parents having one of those little eight o' clock coffee banks. My Mom doesn't remember where it went, so of course I had to find one for myself. What is it that makes us want to surround ourselves with things from our childhood?

I found this lovely shelf liner at a dollar store. I can't wait to line the shelves in the cupboard that hold some of my cookbooks. You can see how it turned out on Friday, for Carey's Book Party!

Finally, I'm so excited to watch LOST tonight! For the last few weeks I've been watching the series online and on discs from the library, and I am now officially caught up. I can start watching it with everyone else, but the bad part is that I now have to wait a week for the next episode! Honestly I don't know how they're going to tie everything all up in just 11 more episodes, but it'll be fun to watch! Now please head over to Sue's for more REDS.

Weekend Finds and Elizabeth's March Tag

I've finally made Elizabeth's March Tag Along! In case you don't know what that is, Elizabeth makes a different tag every month, and she so generously shares the images that she uses, and wants you to tag along with her! Her blog is full of crafting inspiration!

I went thrifting on Friday, and found this huge old Mother card, which is a lovely addition to my "Mother" collection that I accidentally started last summer. I kept finding those old framed Mother poems really cheap, and they're so charming that I decided I'd start a collection! Isn't that how most collections start....by accident?

I found these old Made In Japan figurines on Wednesday, when I talked Mr. Old Glory into stopping at a Salvation Army store while we were out running errands. These were all 25-60 cents each, and that angel is something that I kept getting outbid on at Christmastime on Ebay. It's like I always say, if you wait long enough, you'll find what you're looking for, at your price! I hope YOU found some treasures this weekend too!

Several Glue Gun Burns Later....

I made a few more Easter decorations while burning myself multiple times! Crafting is supposed to be soothing, but it can be oh so painful sometimes too!
A few party cups made from peat pots, with two of Laurie's party birds joining in.

This is a monster-sized paper mache egg that I cut in half. I mean Mr. Old Glory cut in half. I hate using those box cutters, so he kindly did it for me! I hope you can tell that the little tree is pink. I bleached some of those little green trees, then I dyed them pink.

And this last project is my rendition of Elizabeth's little bobblehead chick. I've got the box made for another one, but this little gal exhausted me! She's a little top heavy, so the next one's hat won't be as big I think. So, were you crafty this weekend?

REDnesday!

It's time to pull all of your red stuff out of the cupboards and share it over at It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue is our incredible hostess!

I sure hope I haven't shared these canisters before on REDnesday. I'm really scraping the bottom of the RED barrel here. I think I'm going to have to run out and buy more stuff this week. Thrifting and antiquing have been really bad lately.

A little tin with a pretty red rose on it. I think it's my favorite tin ever!

And lastly, some vintage red plastic roses, along with some lily of the valley, sent to me by Barbara. I love old jars, and I love old plastic flowers even more! Now please head over to Sue's. My mission this week, if I choose to accept it, is to find more fun REDS!

Weekend Finds-Vintage Greeting Cards And More

I went to my favorite antique store on Friday, and I came away with a ton of vintage greeting cards, 11/$1! Feel free to use the images. It's funny how after reading other blogs for a while, certain things remind you of that person.
Every time I see kitties, I think of Holly!

These two make me think of Twyla and Lindsey!

These little yarn girls also make me think of Twyla, who is a whiz with yarn!

This card makes me think of Elizabeth. I know she would make an amazingly cute tag with this card!

The card on the right makes me immediately think of Coralie!

The card on the left makes me think of Susie's beautiful garden in the summer! The one on the right reminds me of Jacqueline, who always indulges her inner little girl!

The card on the left makes me think of Sue, who always has pretty things to share on her blog.

And this squirrel? This squirrel just reminds me of the rotten little squirrels that defy gravity to eat all of the expensive food out of the birdfeeders!

I also found these two old Napco plates. I think I'll buy just about anything with a parakeet on it!

Lots of old wrapping paper for 25 cents.

Oh, that poor donkey!

I LOVE this bridal shower one. Poor girl, she has no idea what she's getting herself into!

Creepy clown paper.

Just plain lovely. I think I want to somehow use this on the inside of one of my bookcases.

And finally, two old Easter picks. This is what I went to the antique store for in the first place, because I have very little vintage Easter things. I must be a little early, because there was nothing Eastery except for these. I guess I can't complain though, because I did walk away with 55 vintage greeting cards....

EGG-citing Easter Crafts!

Do you know what happens when you cut a paper mache egg in half? Yes, I know you get two halves! Do you know what is inside a paper mache egg when you cut it in half? There is a plastic egg in there! Did you know that? I didn't. I thought they were solid paper! Anyway, I cut one in half, and made two little decorations.
I am calling this first project Betty McBunny and Her Flowercart! The wheels on her cart are actually buttons. She's built up some big muscles on her bunny arms by pulling that cart!

This one I have named Little Purple Chick In An Egg. Don't be jealous. I'm sure you can think of great names for your projects too!

And this shadowbox I have named Easter Bunny In The Land Of The Giant Pink Mushrooms!
The sun has been shining for two days straight, and I am positively giddy! There is definitely something to be said for the vitamin D that the sun provides us. I hope the sun is shining in your little part of the world too!
