REDNESDAY-Thrifting In Chicago!

Last week our daughter had to make a trip to Chicago, so I tagged along and made her check out some thrift stores while we were there. My finds were red!

But first we stopped at a cupcake shop, Sweet Mandy B's! Isn't it cute?

I almost picked one of those pink and red ones.....

But ended up with a Snickerdoodle cupcake.

Liz enjoyed a lemon cupcake. The shop is SO adorable!

Then we walked to this little shop, selling all things Parisienne. Liz bought a poster for her bedroom wall.

At Village Discount, I found this vintage tablecloth. It was only $1.80!

I also found this vintage Fisher Price Happy Apple Chime for 50 cents there! Ever since I saw Holly's, I've wanted one. They are crazy expensive at antique stores! Liz found a little Eiffel Tower lamp at Goodwill, which I forgot to take a picture of. We only went to a few thrift stores while we were there, and only the ones that didn't say "upscale", because I am not an upscale type of girl!

Liz gave me this cute little box for Mother's Day.

And she also gave me that double bucket garden thingy. It sits on the front porch, and holds gardening tools and garden gloves.
I'm pretty happy that Liz is embracing the whole thrifting thing. Finally! It makes a thrifty Mom like me proud!

Sounds like you had fun and some great finds.Thrifting while traveling is so much fun. It's great when our kids get us.This past weekend my son sat with me in my booth at the Springfield Extravaganza.Later he negotiated for some street signs to add to his collection.I was ever so proud of him.Enjoy.

Oh Carol, that tablecloth was a steal that price. (excuse me while I lift my chin up off the floor)I love it. It is so bright and cheery!
I remember those apples! Too cute!

That was not nice of you to show those cupcakes! I have been trying to fight this urge to make some. I want sweets so badly!! But I guess I want to lose weight more, so I will keep fighting!

I hope you are having a great day!

Oh your lovely post brought back such sweet family memories. I loved seeing that cute apple. My grandchildren had such fun with a similar one a few years ago when they were much tinier. They grow up soooo fast! Have a lovely Rednesday ;)

yesterday, my school had the kids bake cup cakes for Fair Trading. They even have a competition and I pity the judges who had to eat about 1 inch square of 30 cakes.

I watch on TV, they say macaroon have taken over, cup cakes are passe, what do you think?

Now our happy apples can be friends! :) Yup, I paid 5 bucks for mine! Good for you! I haven't seen one in a thrift store for ages. Great score on the table cloth, too! ♥

That cuppycake store is so clean I'd be afraid to drop a single crumb! But I wouldn't want to anyway since they all look so good. I love the term "upscale thrift store"--I mean, really, once you go upscale you're not thrifting any longer, you're just paying a bit less for stuff that was too expensive to begin with. One of my nieces has the thrifty vintage bug and that makes ME so happy!

Rebecca said...

You always find the neatest stuff!

Terrific finds! Cup cakes - YUM!

It's been a while since I visited your cute blog, I am sorry to say, but I really enjoyed catching up today. I love all the stuff you display -- I never know what to do with vintage stuff, but I admire how it looks. What I really like are those vintage images you have on your blog. They remind me of illustrations in my mother's magazines when I was a little girl. Thanks for visiting!

You found some great things on your trip to Chicago! We use to live in the Chicago area (for 26 years!) in the northwestern towns of Mt. Prospect, Palatine, Arlington Hts and then in the southwest Homer Township (near Lockport and now called Homer Glen). There's some wonderful shops in the western towns (i.e., St. Charles) that I use to love to visit. Long Grove, IL is fun too!

What a fun day you must have had with your daughter, Carol! I love spending time doing things with my daughter. She loves thriftin' with me. We always find SOMETHING awesome to buy. Looks like you really scored some neat goodies!

Thanks for visiting me at the cottage. And I would love to have you join my linky party. The link goes up on Wednesday nights. ;)

Carol you lucky lady. I have been searching for an apple for some time. I remember that sound so vividly from childhood. They are always so expensive. What a great find. Wonderful trip...smiles...Renee

You found some cute finds. We'll be in Chicago in about a week to pick up son from school-I hope I can find a few good shops, although I'm curbing my thrifting habit. I've got to pare down-for the downsized house to be. Also loved your city garage sale finds-you lucky!

Maureen said...

Slowly (and without them even knowing!) we lure them in! I'm guessing it has something to do with them spending their own money.

Speaking of daughters...I had a thought...I'll email you.

Jacqueline said...

Good morning to Sunshine Carol. Can I name you that? You beam with happiness and I love that about you.

I am trying to open my daughters eyes to thrifting too. I managed to open up my daughter-in-law to thrift finds and now she is hooked. My son who only likes modern is catching on too.

I love Holly's blog too...I'm her Molly. A fun childlike game we started playing long ago. Now you know our secret!!! Three is not a crowd to me, it's fun! To me, her signature item is that cutie apple.

Fun at the cupcake shop. Is it not the icing on the cupcake when we get to tag-a-long with our daughters? Mine is helping me at an estate sale this weekend.

By the way Carol, there are boxes and boxes of Avon in boxes. Vintage 1950-1970. Is there anything you are looking for? I'm pricing it so it should be cheap! Email me if you see this in time. Sale is Sat and Sun.
Bless you both, mom/daughters rule!
