Pyrex And Fire King For VTT

It's time for VTT, where Suzanne at Coloradolady is our hostess!

I thought I'd give everyone's eyeballs a rest, and take a break from all of the Christmas stuff! We must pace ourselves, because after all it's only November, and there's still so much more Christmas to share! I originally bought this pink Pyrex casserole dish to resell, but that was two years ago, and I can't bear to part with it!

Another Pyrex casserole dish. I forgot the name of the pattern, but I know that Sue knows, and she will remind me! I love it, and use it all of the time.

Oh, if only I had a lid to go with this beauty! I bet I'll find one some day. Until then, I use this baby all the time too. I just put a piece of wax paper over the top and it cooks like a charm!

These are Fire King bowls that we use for our own little Thanksgiving dinner the night before we go to my sister's for the big dinner. This big bowl holds the mashed potatoes.

And there are two smaller bowls that nest inside the big one. The smaller one holds the gravy.

And finally we have a Fire King tulip bowl. I had a whole set of mixing bowls, but I sold them on Ebay. I think this is a grease jar that is missing it's lid. Maybe that's why when I tried selling it, no one wanted it. Can you imagine? That's ok, I'm happy to have a piece of this cuteness all to myself! Now please head over to Suzanne's, because there's so much more to see!

  3. The pattern on the nesting bowls is a good one for Thanksgiving. The rooster even looks almost like a turkey.

  7. I love your collection..I don't have many pieces of pyrex..but I look for more. It's funny, when I didn't really think about collecting it too much, I found a lot. Now that I really want more, it's become unfindable. :). Of all your pieces, I like the one best that no one really wanted..it's so pretty.

  9. Oh what wonderful cooking dishes, I love the thickness of the older dishes, they just don't make them like that anymore.

  10. You have a great collection of Pyrex and Fire King! I am trying to add to mine...I've heard that the new ones aren't made with the same materials, so can burst in the oven...makes those vintage bowls and casseroles very valuable!

    God bless,
    Mary

  21. I've been collecting vintage Pyrex and Fire-King for awhile now and I can never get enough of it! There is a fantastic website, pyrexlove.com, that helps you identify patterns and also gives information on years of production AND eBay links to what's for sale. I'm on a quest for a Modern Kitchen casserole--I had one but my husband accidently broke it. Sob.

  27. There is more variety of pyrex than I ever would have imagined! My fave is the gorgeous pink, I wouldn't sell either.

  28. I love the old pyrex casseroles. Unfortunately my dm and dmil both upgraded in the 70s to styles I like less than what were probably their original ones.
    Yours are beautiful.

  30. Pretty...I'm green with envy!

I bought a whole set of the tulip bowls on eBay last year. My mom used them when I was growing up, spaghetti in the big one, sauce in the next biggest, veggies in the others. =) It brings a smile to my face when I use mine--which is rarely.

  32. I love these old pyrex dishes!

I always wanted to collect the ones with groovy 70s patterns on them!

I love the idea that they're just little pieces of functional artwork in your kitchen!

  33. Great Pyrex! I LOVE that pink one -- never saw that color before in Pyrex.

I had no idea that Pyrex was collectible until just recently when I let my daughter take my stack of 35 year old Pyrex mixing bowls to her grad school apartment -- and my friends said, 'Are you nuts?'

Oh well... I do miss my aqua and white stacked bowls, but I guess that just gives me more to search for on Ebay!

And YES everyone in blogland is invited for dinner at That Old House, anytime! We live for hungry crowds!
