I finally had some luck thrifting last week! It's been rough going lately, but I knew if I kept popping in, I was bound to find something good.
I've wanted one of these Christmas card files ever since I first saw one on Laurie's blog, Magpie Ethel. And let me tell you, it's helped me out alot since I brought it home. I've sent out a grand total of one card so far! I also found that bunch of old Christmas cards for a quarter each.
I thought this old Made In Japan gingerbread house was so cute, even though Hansel and Gretel's every move is being watched by the wicked old witch hanging out the door, waiting to eat them!
This is the second tin with this design that I've found this year, and although I really love that big fat bumblebee on the lid, that's not why I bought this one.
It's because of what was inside! I won't tell you how long I played around with these, trying to show each one off to it's best advantage. Question: How many pretty ornaments does a person have to buy before they finally stop being absolutely thrilled every time they find more?!?
I added the Santa and the tree to my small Gurley candle collection.
I think my favorite find last week was this vintage child's watering can. These things are so outrageously expensive that when I see one cheap, which is very rare, I want to do a cartwheel or something. Instead, I just grab it and walk somewhat quickly to the cashier! So, did you find anything last week that you flipped over?
I think the answer to your question is...NEVER! You never stop being delighted by nifty old ornaments. There is a thrill every time I come across them and as I've explained - I really should stop but that is so not going to happen. Your watering can is a major score. Good for you. Enjoy!

Thanks for coming to see me especially at a time when mom's health has been compromised. I'm glad she is in a nursing home to re-coop. They are like mini hospitals out here and most of them have lost their icky unclean smell and are really good now and folks get good care.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I notice when I visit your blog (besides my heart pounding with glee) is that you either have so much of what I have or you have seen it. Everything from Avon to the christmas card box and even making those little miniatures. I just started making something similar and I call them Fairyland Miniatures. So far I've sold one! Tee hee...more than I ever expected.

Oh shoot...I forgot to answer your question. This week I found a Pinocchio ornament that is old and I love it and three old Raggedy Ann books and a gingerbread man tree...hard to describe but it's cute!

You can NEVER have too many ornaments. The day I get blase buying ornaments will be the day I stop. It's a wonderful high! Oh, and the reason I say you can never have too many...because someday your tree may fall down! Like ours did two weekends ago. I lost about 2 dozen. Luckily, no family treasures and only three I was a little upset about! No more big trees for us! We cut that 9 and a 1/2 footer down to 8'!

Love your finds! Especially the watering can. I collect those and the old tin litho sand pails and shovels, and they have gotten very, very pricey,especially the ones marked Chein or Ohio Art. Never have found one at a thrift store.
