What Would You Do?

What would you do if you had lost your beloved cat several months ago, and you were now feeling lonesome for a pet? Why, you'd get yourself another pet, and you'd find one that matches your decor! What? Is there something wrong with that? But what kind of pet?
How about another cat? No, our daughter is very allergic, so no more cats in this house.

Maybe a dog? No, too much work, it probably wouldn't be welcome at the cottage we vacation at, and sometimes they steal the car and take a joyride!

A bunny? They're definitely cute, but they think nothing of going to the bathroom on you while you're holding them. And sometimes they get into the fridge! What to do, what to do......

Meet my new pet, Petunia Pearl! She's so easy to take care of, and she matches so many things in the house.

Like this tray.

The pottery.

There's definitely blue in this pillow.

Yep, she matches the ocean blue of the globe too.

And this rug. A neon green parakeet would have clashed with all of this, don't you think?

Yes, Petunia fits in just perfectly here. I've been training her to climb onto another perch, and then onto my finger. And then at some point, I will let her out of the cage.

And hopefully all will go well, and I won't look like this!

REDNESDAY!!!

Please be sure to visit Sue at It's A Very Cherry World when you are done looking at my reds. She's our hostess for REDnesday, and she made that graphic up there with the little cottage. I think it's my most favorite of all the graphics she's made for REDnesday!

First up is an old tin that I found at a garage sale, along with a couple of vintage glasses with roses on them.

If you are interested in finding out how much your cookie jar was worth in 1994, this book is for you! It seems silly to keep it, because the prices have probably gone through the roof since then, but it's fun to look at all of the different cookie jars I'll never be able to afford!

This beautiful piece of fabric came from a garage sale run by a lovely Amish woman in Indiana. There's almost 3 yards here, although it's only about 16 inches wide because she had made it into a tablerunner. I think some kitchen valances are definitely in order here!
That's all for me this REDnesday. Now please head over to Sue's, and check out all of the other red lovers while you're at it!

Deja Vu At The Flea Market!

Mr. Old Glory and I went to the flea market on Sunday, and right away I spotted this old Lefton bluebird pitcher. And I knew I was about to experience a little deja vu. I asked the seller how much it was, and she immediately went into a tirade.

She said that she had paid $4 for it, but that I could have it for $2. She also said that she could have bought the salt and pepper shakers that went with it too, if not for a very nasty girl who stole them out from under her.

Remember these s&p shakers? The nasty girl was me! Do you remember the fight I got into over these? I can't believe it was the same lady, but luckily she didn't recognize me! And now I own the pitcher too. Was it karma? Or just dumb luck? I'm just really really glad she didn't recognize me!

We also went to The Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. I didn't find very much, but we had a great time and the weather was beautiful. These two old planters made the ride home with us. The more I look at that scottie, the more it looks like it's wearing pink lipstick. Very troubling.....

This little robin with the crazy eyes was only a quarter, and also came home with us.

One other thing that we brought back was a rip-roaring case of indigestion. I DID say that we were going to eat our way through the festival, and we did just that. We had corn dogs and pumpkin rolls and bloomin' onions. Sadly, we had no room for a Pork Parfait.

And no Donut Burger passed our lips either! So, did you find some treasures last weekend? Or eat anything interesting?

Vintage Christmas For REDNESDAY

If looking at Christmas stuff in October makes you nauseous, you might not want to proceed any further! But it's vintage Christmas stuff. Does that make you feel any better?

Whenever I'm near our Goodwill, I make a point of stopping in because they have their Christmas stuff out all year round. I saw this little Made In Japan kitty in a Santa boot on the shelf, and had to use telepathic powers to get the lady standing in front of it to move so that I could grab it before she did!

The kitty comes off, and then it's a........what is it?

A Napco angel planter. I love anything made by Napco, especially Christmas things!

I don't know who makes these two, but it's marked Made In Japan. Why are her eyes closed and he's got one eye open while they're cuddling?
Ok, that's it for me this REDnesday. Please head over to It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue is our kind hostess. Only 73 days 'til Christmas!!!

A Fine Day At The Flea!

What a glorious day at the flea market! The weather was perfect, there were a ton of sellers, and we were all squeezing the last bits of fun out of the flea market season. Hopefully we'll have three more Sundays, weather permitting.

I've been waiting for a vintage Old Maid game to come my way. I really love the images on this edition. The old globe is also a bank, and I was able to date when it was made HERE. It was made in 1961, the year I was born! I also picked up that little red picnic basket.......

and added it to part of my collection. I wonder if they ever made even smaller ones.

I also picked up a couple of vintage Valentine planters, and the girl is a bell.

Two birth month angels.

Our model for the vintage jewelry portion of the show is this Beistle skeleton.

I found this pin and necklace for 25 cents each.

And this necklace was also 25 cents. Thank you Ms. Skeleton. Your performance was spine-tingling!

I also found some old magazines that I can't wait to crack open and look at all of the vintage ads.

I'm particularly curious to look through that April '45 issue of Woman's Day. I know WWII was wrapping up then, so it will be interesting to see if there are any references to it, or if this was something that women could sit and read and be blissfully unaware for a few hours that anything was going on across the pond.

And last, we have an old Christmas box and a bunch of paper lanterns.
I'm pretty excited, because this week Mr. Old Glory and I are going to The Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. We'll see lots of crafts and antiques. Oh, and covered bridges too. And we plan to eat our way through it all! So, did you find anything interesting over the weekend?

Pinks From My Childhood-Pink Saturday

I must have been a hoarder, I mean collector, from an early age. Because I have alot of things from my childhood. Like this little treasure box. Too bad I didn't dust my junk when I was little, because the "hair" on this doggie used to be snowy white!

This girl and her cart used to sit on my grandparents' TV. She's been broken and glued together so many times. I blame that on my stupid boy cousins, who just couldn't keep their hands off pretty things!

And last we have these two pink elephants. Don't they look just like something you would hallucinate while on a weekend bender?! I had something else that I wanted to share today, but I can't find it, and I'm convinced that someone must have broken into the house and stolen only that one thing. I JUST saw it! Has that ever happened to you?
Well, if you'd like to see more pinks, please head over to How Sweet The Sound, where Beverly is our hostess.

Pottery Extravaganza!

I love when a theme develops while you're garage saling. The theme this past weekend was pottery! I consider it a good week if I find just one piece of vintage pottery, but last week I scored 5 pieces.

First there were vases. The ones on the left and right are old Floraline vases. The one in the middle is USA Pottery, and I'm nuts for it!

And then there was this lovely blue vase. It was almost like it was waving me over to have a closer look. It's so curvaceous!

And then there was this old Haeger pot. I've never seen this shape before, so it came home with me too. Yep, definitely a pottery theme last week.

And although they aren't vintage pottery, these trick-or-treaters got to come home with me too. Along with those teeny-tiny pumpkins that the seller grew himself, and sold for a dime apiece. So, was there a theme to your thrifting last week?
