Thrifty Finds

There was only one garage sale in town, an unadvertised special, two blocks away. I didn't find anything that made me all giddy, but that's ok. Not every sale can be a winner, otherwise my house would be overflowing! Here's what I got: Some vintage BLING.

Do you like my fancy backdrop? It's a paper napkin! This next item is vintage perfume samples....

that are in glass vials. It looks like drugs, doesn't it?! You're supposed to snap the end off and rub it on your wrist. I would love to know what White Lilac and Shocking and Evening In Paris smell like, but call me crazy, I don't want to risk slicing my fingers open to do it! Then rubbing that jagged edge on? I don't think so!

I've seen the infomercials for the Dean Martin Roasts so many times, and I've been really tempted to pick up the phone and order, but at $1 a piece, I like these better! I love all the old comedians on here, like Lucy, Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, and George Burns. Those were the good old days! Oh gosh, I just sounded so old! I can't wait to watch these.

Last but not least, an old Brachs candy jar, for 10 cents, and an old Santa mug, made in Japan, for 25 cents. I've got three so far, so it's officially a collection! I hope you found a few treasures this weekend, amid all the celebrating! It you would like to see more thrifty finds, head over to Southern Hospitality.

Hi Carol,

Yes, I agree. That beadboard wallpaper is so much cheaper than the real thing and a lot easier to install. Love your finds. Gotta love Dean Martin!

I remember those little perfume vials. We thought as kids that it was pretty cool because they were glass...kind of dangerous. You are right, if every sale was wonderful we would be buried under a MOUNTAIN of stuff. Yikes.

You don't sound old, you sound like you have excellent taste. I LOVE the oldies, all those types of shows that have those actors that you mentioned in them. I LOVE all the old music..love the clothing, the jewelery. I keep saying I'm a wanna be 50's woman!!

I am as old as dirt, but I don't remember those glass perfume vials. Maybe we were too far out in the country!!!

Gee Carol, Why would we even think about people stealing our yard ornaments? LOL, I actually might have done something funny with them as a kid....

In fact, I actually DID think about teenagers doing something on a dare had I had put them in the front bed- they would be right there for the taking... I don't think kids would really think they were doing something wrong, just something funny. I guess I was a bad girl way back in the day. We didn't do anything malicious, just silly stuff like soaping car windows, throwing eggs, etc. Yeah, I guess I was baaaad!

Back to you.... I remember perfume vials, heck, even AVON gave them out. I loved getting my mom's cast-offs! What will you be doing with the jewelry?

It was a slow week in most places, I'd say. Here's to next weekend when I hit some stores in hubby's home town in Iowa. Have a great week!

Hi Carol,
You picked up some great vintage bling and I love that candy jar! The snap apart perfume bottles are a first for me, but I fondly remember Dean! I enjoyed your comment about Rhoda & myself thrift shopping for some of our pieces. I love the thrill of the hunt and definitely like getting a good value. Besides it is such great fun!

Hey there! Thanks for visiting me. You asked a specific question and I hope I can answer it in a way that will help you.
I started blogging about a year ago. I posted lots of family photos and talked about my family a lot, as well as decorating. It was all good, until one day I got a very ugly comment. Someone made a "disgusting" about my little grandaughter. I really can't say much more about it, but I will never post family photos in a public place again.
As fun as the world wide web is, just keep in mind that there are dangers too. Never tell anyone where you live and be very selective of the photos you decide to post. Just be careful and you will be okay.
Be blessed!

Carol, I agree about the perfume bottles. I'm not sure that's the brightest promotional idea I've heard of, after all its a good thing when your customers can come back and purchase the perfume! LOL!

Carol, thanks so much for commenting on my blog yesterday about my Thrifty Treasures! We love the Paris map and the painted picture. We have another one painted by DH's grandfather on the opposite wall in the dining room. They are really special!

Love your vintage blingy jewelry! And I agree - I would be afraid to open those perfume vials. I would probably be in the ER! Have a great week!

Great finds. I love the costume jewelry and the Santa mug made me think of my childhood. I have one just like it that I have been drinking hot coco out of since I was a little girl. I have it around here somewhere.
