Weekend Finds-Some Found At The Curb!

Garage saling was the pits this weekend! I didn't buy a single thing while antiquing on Thursday either. I've decided not to buy so many little things, and just save my money for the big stuff. Like a round pedestal dining room table. It would be so much more roomy in there if the table was round. And I'm saving for a BIG etched mirror for the living room. I've seen the one that I want, and it's in my Mom's living room, but she won't let me have it! Can you believe the nerve?! Anyway, my sister found this mirror for me while she was out antiquing with her husband. She just gave it to me and wouldn't take any money for it! She's the best sister ever, and this is another great addition to my collection!

She also found this book for me. I had no idea that Jane Austen had written so many books! I will be diving into this baby come winter, and I'm sure I'll like all of the stories, because Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorites!

I found these next three things curbside. Such a cute little birdbath! It's about 18" tall, and made of resin. I'll need to scrub it a little, but I can't wait to fill it up for the birdies!

Next is this cement poodle statue. It's poor little tail was broken off, but it was sitting right there. How kind of the people to leave it there for me! Does anyone know how I woud go about performing a tail reattachment? Do I need to use cement? Even if I can't reattach it, I still love Fifi. That's what I've named her. I'm so obsessed with cement statues this summer! So far I've found a cat, a goose and her goslings, and a girl. I would love to find some old cement urns at a garage sale too!

These two old Christmas tins were also sitting at the curb, waiting for me to swing by! I love these, and I always buy them when they're cheap. FREE today!
For those of you that saw in my previous post that I have poison ivy, an update: after 3 itchy, tossy- turny nights, I think I might sleep peacefully tonight. A friend told me about Zanfel, which her father had used. Her father lives across the street from me, so I went over to see how it worked for him, and he gave me the tube to try. Let me tell you, it's been an hour since I used it, and I've not been itchy! God Bless the makers of Zanfel!!

To glue cement, we used Landscape Adhesive. It is a caulk like thing that we got from the landscaping section of our superstore hardware store.

Hey there!

I've never read Jane Austin, but my daughter keeps begging me too...LOL!

I've never picked up anything curbside, though I've had people pick up what I've put out. Looks like you got some good stuff...I think there should be some sort of concrete glue, you would think...

Have an awesome day!☼

Your 'curb pickings' were worth the lack of saling 'stuff' - DEFINITELY!!

I like that poodle. If the tail won't reattach, just back him up to a bush or the wall...no one will be the wiser that he had his tail bobbed...I wonder if some Thinset would reattach the tail? Or use a mortar bit to hollow out a bit of a hole in both tail and doggie, put in a dowel coated with Liquid Nails, and try that?

I have that same edition of Jane Austen's complete works. I have read through several times. My favs are Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Emma and Sense and Sensibility. Probably in that order. I love her writings because she draws you in and the characters come alive. Enjoy the book. And the wonderful curb findings. Wish I could find those by the curb.

Great stuff even if the garage sales weren't up to snuff! One year, I saw neighbors down the street had put out lawn furniture so I asked my husband to go down and collect the whole set. We used it for two years and then put it out on the curb for someone else to love. Gone in 60 seconds!

Wow, where do you live? You didn't even need to go garaging because you hit the Mother Load at the curb!!
To fix the tail I'd try an Epoxy:

Hey, Carol! Give me some curb! ☺ Those old tins remind me so much of my mom. She would fill them with cookies at Christmas time and freeze them.

I've been telling myself to save up for something big, too but I caaaaan't! It's pitiful!

I've read a few of Jane's books but I much prefer the movies! Then you can see the costumes and furnishings rather than read page after page after page of dialog! It's amazing to me how anyone could write those many words between imaginary people. She evidently knew her subject!

Glad your poison ivy is better! I'm one of those rare people who are not allergic to it but my boys have gotten it really bad before! We treat it with Tea Tree oil; cheap but potent.

Enjoy your sister. Mine would be clueless about what I like and never gives me gifts. We are soooo different!

Hope you get your doggy's tail fixed! ♥
