MY WEEKEND FINDS-Quilt Help, Please!
Thanks for tuning in to another episode of My Weekend Finds, the continuing saga of one girl's quest for more junk!
I found this quilt at an estate sale, and I was really surprised to see it. There was a picture of it in the listing, and I thought for sure that it would be gone by the time I got there. When I asked the worker how much it was, she said that all blankets were $2. SOLD!
I know it's hand quilted.
But I don't know zip about quilts. Is the fabric vintage?
I just can't tell if it's old or not. I know that if the fabric is vintage, that doesn't necessarily make the quilt old. I guess in the end, it doesn't really matter, as long as I like it, right? I would just like to know.........
This cute little TV tray came from a garage sale. I guess there was a spattering candle incident, and I'm still trying to get all of the wax off. After explaining to the seller that this would involve alot of work on my part, he lowered his price from $3 to 50 cents!
I also found some McCoy and Shawnee pots. I've found that if you stand there and let the seller complain about their in-laws for several minutes, you get a reeeally good price!
This box of ornaments came from an estate sale. The cashier explained apologetically that they usually charge $1 for a whole box of ornaments. Fine by me! It gets me that much closer to making an ornament wreath like the ones that Sonya makes.
These are old railroad car keys. Didn't need them, just liked them!
And I can never pass up some good old Harlequin Romances! I love the graphics on the covers, and the titles crack me up.
Every couple of days, I change them out and feature a new title for my viewing pleasure!
So did you find anything exciting over the weekend? Perhaps something that you had to spend hours and hours cleaning, and make you question your sanity?

Wow, you really had a good weekend!
Your quilt definitely has vintage fabrics in it. It looks like a depression era quilt. You lucky, lucky puppy!
You found some great stuff! Love the quilt, and yes the fabrics are from the 40's. Some of it looks like flour sack fabric. Congrats!
Definitely old fabric pieces on that one and if my memore serves correctly it is a Grandmother's Fans pattern. $2 - WOW! When they are that inexpensive you can use them without guilt.Enjoy.
Funny about the Harlequin romance books. Watched an episode just last night about women who write for them,,lol. I had TONS of them years back..I could polish off one of those books in just a few hours!! Like the idea of changing them around...I do that too, to match the seasons of the year,,lol. Yes, I do that. Loving everything you got. That tv tray stand is awesome. Good stuff for 50 cents girl! The quilt is gorgeous. I didn't know those planters you got had a particular name for them. Are they collectable? I find tons of them where I am for dirt cheap. No finds for me this week. Worked worked worked..lol. I did get some bargains at work though..yahooooooo..Need lip gloss..found some yellow stickers on a batch. Checked the price. Were lower than what the ticket said. Yahooooooooooo..picked up five of them..three for me, two for my daughter..Hours of cleaning stuff I bring in? Yes,,obsessively at that. I have the entire basement I need to reorganize AGAIN!Got a new dresser that I plan on putting my seasonal decorations in..Got it moved to the basement, changed some furniture around there..still have some sitting right in the middle of my craft now..Now it's time to do something (of course I'm busy doing laundry, washing dishes, cooking,,etc...)sigh..Oh well..Lots of projects...should never complain I'm bored.
I'm drooling over all your finds. Hard to pick a favorite. The fabric in your quilt is just lovely and the McCoy pottery and ornaments pretty awesome too!
Good grief, a $2 quilt and a pink McCoy all in the same weekend, and more to boot? That fabric sure looks vintage to me.
Oh Carol, that quilt was a steal. You are sooo fortunate to get it at that price! I love the vintage fabric.
You found some great bargins.
Gorgeous vintage or not. Two dollars? Oh my goodness you cannot by a towel at wally world for that. Love it all. You did a fabulous job.
You have some great finds there!! I recently found an old Harlequin Romance but it's so musty I'm going to have trouble reading it!!
That quilt is amazing and for $2 a steal! Vintage fabrics for sure and I agree the pattern is Grandmother's fans. Awesome! Love the ornaments and also the vintage planters...pink is my favorite of course. I didn't yard sale this weekend as I'm trying to recover from our trip and the money I spent there! LOL. I still can't get over that quilt for $2!!!
hugs, Linda
A whole dollar for the box or ornaments? I am crying a little right now... :-) Lucky you and that quilt for $2? Still crying. I'm curious, what's on the back of the quilt?
You lucked out on that quilt. It looks in beautiful shape and yes that is vintage fab. Look at those tenny, tiny stitches. Beautiful work, beautiful find!!!
what a sale! Oh my! I wish somone would appologize to be for charging a dollar for vintage Christmas! ♥
Oh, I spent time scrubbing sticker residue of the train case I posted today but I didn't question my sanity, instead I congratulated myself on finally doing it! ♥
I agree that the quilt is vintage!
I'm collecting old Christmas goodies to make a wreath too!
Nice finds!
Good for you to dig up the poision ivy!!
Happy Monday!
Warmly,
deb
Love, love, love your quilt. I am no expert but I totally think you have a vintage quilt, but it wouldn't matter to me, a quilt is a quilt and I love them all. You got some cute items!
Your found some great items! I can't beleive the incredible prices you got them for!! I don't know if the quilt is vintage or not, but it's pretty, and for $2 that is all that matters. Love the flower pots and the ornaments too. And there is that beautiful blue basket tin again. I love that and everytime it shows up in a picture I just ooh and aah!
I once read that you could get those OLD yellow stains out of vintage tablecloths with Tilex???? But to use great caution and test it on a small area first.
Great finds!!!

The sashing in the quilt is the ever popular nile green. Between the prints and the nile green I would say you have fabrics spanning the range of the 1930's through the 1950's. I *think* that all the prints you did a close up of I have seen reproductions of, so there is always the chance that those are repro fabrics too.
When dating a quilt it is always dated to the most recent fabric. Without seeing all the prints (to see if any are newer than the 50's) I would date it to the 1950's.
However, this is all subjective since the blocks could have been sitting around until last year when someone decided to put them together! (And because nile green was popular for a few decades. Also, the fan centers are not really a good nile green match.)
Something about the way it is quilted (the diagonal lines) gives me a little pause. There appear to be dark lines under where she quilted?
Being the quilt queen (wink) I would implore you to still use it carefully, wash it carefully and keep it from the direct sun because it does appear to be in FANTASTIC condition.
Anyway, that is a lot of rambling on, isn't it?
I do still love it, no matter what the mystery answer might be. :-)
Carol, I sure everyone has told you by now that your quilt is definitely old. Looks like feedsake materials to me. Wonderful find! So is the planters:)! Have a wonderful week! Twyla
That quilt is a steal for $2! And who cares if it's old or not as long as you like it, that is really all that matters. The fabrics look very vintage... but we are not experts :). And those ornaments, What a great buy... they will look lovely in a wreath.
