Pink Shrooms!! Estate Sale Finds!

First, let me say that it has come to my attention that not everyone can comment on my blog, because of the way I had the settings. Well, I have since changed those settings so that anyone can comment! So if you have never been able to comment here before, I hope that you will now, because I'd love to hear what you have to say! Ok , now on with the show! I love estate sales. Chances are that you are going to find something there. Whether it's kitchen items, or linens, or jewelry, it usually can be found at an estate sale.
But pink mushrooms?!? I certainly didn't expect to find pink mushrooms! Did I need them? Of course not. But I had to have them!! Aren't they adorable? They're so perfect for my "Secret Garden". Now all I need is a garden gnome. Yes, need!

I also got this little cherub or angel there. She's very cute, but she looks too new, so she might get a good rubbing with some sandpaper!

Some vintage Halloween decorations! The one in the upper left corner is a mask!

A couple of old books. I love old books! I have too many old books. But who could pass up an old Audubon bird book, or an old Dracula book, which will go great with the above decorations!

An old tin. You either love these or hate these. I know some people think they are very tacky looking, but you can't beat that beautiful blue background, or the lovely roses. I look at them as beautiful storage for this 2-closet house!

I've decided that I want all of the Jane Austen movies, so I was very happy to find Emma.

Finally, I remember reading this Daphne du Maurier book, so I thought I would give the movie a whirl. Mr. Old Glory is on vacation this week, and we are going to be doing something on Sunday that I hope will make for a very colorful post on Monday. And that's all I'm going to say!!

Pink In The Kitchen!!

It's time for Vintage Thingies Thursday, where Suzanne is our hostess at Coloradolady!

I thought I would share some of my pink things from the kitchen. Those of you that follow my blog may be surprised that I have any pink, because I love red so much. But if it's a vintage kitchen item, I don't care what color it is! This is my little pink Sunbeam mixer. I love it! If anything makes me feel like June Cleaver in the kitchen, this is it!

This is an old ice crusher that my sister gave me. I've never used it though. It just sits up on a shelf, looking all pink and cute!

An old plastic colander. Definitely too cute to use!

An old cookie or biscuit jar, of a little girl with a pink beret. She looks like a Campbells kid, doesn't she?

And finally we have some miscellaneous pieces of pink melamine dishes. I'm still on the lookout for some pink plates. Pink plates would make anything taste better, wouldn't they? I think so! Who knows, maybe I'll find some at the next garage sale. I do love the thrill of the hunt!
If you enjoyed seeing my vintage pink kitchen stuff, why not head over to Suzanne's, where you can see alot more vintage thingies!

It's Rednesday!!

It's that day of the week again, where we check out everybody's red stuff at It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue is our hostess!

I got this little plastic pitcher at that garage sale on Friday, where the little old lady was so proud of her treasures that she was selling. I love this thing, with it's cute ruffled lid! It's perfect for holding my green tea that I drink every day.

This is an old advertising measuring cup from Red Owl grocery stores. It was bought out by Supervalu, but there are some stores out there that are still using that great Red Owl logo.

I couldn't pass up this Little Red Riding Hood doll at the flea market. I don't know why, because I am not a doll buyer, but she was in my hand and in my purse before I knew what hit me!

And finally, this old souvenir of Chicago, an egg timer. Don't know why I bought this either! Probably the 25cent price tag had alot to do with it! I bought this from a former antique store dealer at the flea market, and he really should have known better than to put a price tag on the front of anything! I can not get that mark off. For shame!
Well, if you liked seeing my red stuff, head on over to Sue's to see more!

Vintage Greeting Cards

I have always loved vintage greeting cards. The graphics are just so sweet! When I discovered Coralie's blog, A Vintage Cottage Home, I knew I had to have some cards of my own. Coralie has a beautiful collection, which she shares every day. I haven't been lucky enough to find any cards at garage sales, and didn't want to pay a couple of dollars for just one card at antique stores. Ebay wasn't an option for me either. I'm too cheap! So when I found some last Friday at an antique store, for 25 cents each, I was ecstatic! I will be going back to that store by myself, so I can take as much time as I want looking through all of the cards, because now I want more!
I love the old sparkly cards!

I want to live in this cottage!

This card is almost exactly like a card my Grandma sent me once when I was sick. I still have the card. Aren't Grandmas the best?

Ooo la la!

This little cottage would do very nicely too!

There is some fluffy stuff on this one. Or it was fluffy at one time, but now it's been mushed down over time. Still so dang cute!

Can you stand how sweet this one is?!

This one might be my favorite. Maybe.

And I got this old card box, because Coralie buys them too, and they're very pretty in their own right. Look at that little flower shop girl! Cuteness overload!!

If you had bought that box of cards new, you would have had to plunk down 39 big ones at Goldblatts. Oh do I miss Goldblatts. And Woolworths. And Ben Franklin!! My favorite! And Korvettes. Anyone remember Korvettes? Ahhh, the good old days....

Garage Sale & Flea Market Finds

Garage saling was horrid this weekend. Atrocious. The pits! I went to about 15 sales, and only came away with four things. I'm saying it like it's a bad thing, but maybe it's for the best. I have so much stuff already! I got the yellow and white pottery pieces for $1 each.

Isn't this little green pot cute?! The sweetest little old lady was the cashier at this sale, and she said, Oh, you're buying my little green pot! And I said, Yes, I guess it's my turn to love it! I think she liked that I said that, because she seemed very proud of her things. I will love that little green pot! That thing in the background was hers too, but I'm saving it for the Rednesday party, so you'll have to stop back in to see what it is. It's very cute, and I love it!

I went to a flea market Sunday morning. I hadn't been there in probably 15 years, because the prices were starting to get outrageous back then. Today, I was sad to see that there weren't nearly as many antiques as in past years, but it was still fun to be back. I got this Statue of Liberty souvenir. It's very heavy, and it's my third one, so it's official: I am a collector of Statue of Liberty souvenirs!

I also got this great old alarm clock. Guess what?!? I am also now a collector of little alarm clocks! Yay! I didn't see that coming, but when I went to put it with the "others", I realized I had been collecting them! Does that ever happen to you? Where you've got a collection of something, and you didn't even know it?

This little "cuckoo clock" was only 15 cents. That's right. 15 cents, Made In Japan. I've been wanting one of these for a while now, but wasn't crazy about the $10 and up price tags I was seeing. That's another thing. It seems that if I wait long enough, something will come along, in my price range. I love when that happens!

Finally, a teeny tiny cloche! I have trapped one of my little roosters inside! Well, all in all I guess I didn't do too bad. I got two other things at the flea market that I will also share on Rednesday. Now if only I could get over the two things that I was outbid on this weekend, on Ebay....

Patriot Day

THE GRATITUDE SALUTE: Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you, and wanted to convey your thanks for their service to our country? But you felt awkward doing so? I always thank our men and women when I meet one, but I will start doing this instead, because no words are necessary. Please watch this short YouTube video about The Gratitude Salute.

Rednesday, A Barn Sale & Plate Love!!

I forgot that today is Wednesday, and that makes it Rednesday! Please join me at It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue is our hostess! Thank goodness my first item here is red! When there is a holiday, my days get all confused! Friday I went to a sale that I look forward to every year. It's held in a barn, and that barn is packed to the rafters with stuff! And the grounds outside of it are full of furniture and more stuff. And the prices are always amazing!
I got this old quilt for $2.50. I don't know anything about quilts, but I think it was hand-quilted, because the stitches aren't all the same length. Does anyone know anything about it? I'd appreciate any info on it. I just think it's a perfect adddition to my patriotic decor!

I've always wanted one of those milk glass pitchers! Well now I have one, and I'm using it as a vase. I put an old canning jar inside to hold the water, so the pitcher doesn't get all scummy. That tumbler is ginormous, and is great for a big ol' glass of iced tea! Love the old pink pottery donkey too. Luckily my friend Nancy grabbed it for me! This sale is so crazy that you have to go through it a couple of times in order to see everything. And you better grab things and decide later if you really want it!

I certainly didn't need another sewing basket, but I couldn't leave it behind, at $1.

I'm glad I grabbed it, because there were some cute things inside. Anyone need a pocket with the name Lil on it?

Cute little patches, and lots of sequins!

Nancy grabbed this old part of a crate for me too. She knows me so well! I'll hang this in my laundry room down in the dungeon. I mean basement!

Two great books, especially the bird book, from 1923.

With lovely illustrations by Robert Bruce Horsfall.

But the sweetest part is that someone pressed a bunch of clovers throughout the book! All 3-leaved though. Darn the luck!

PLATE LOVE
A few posts ago I said that you could ask me anything, and I would answer your questions. Peaceful Afternoon wanted to know how many dishes I have. I've just pulled one dish from each set, instead of dragging all the sets out of the cupboards. I had no idea I have so many, but I have a feeling that those of you that participate in the Tablescape party have ALOT more than me! And I just realized I forgot three sets that I keep on the attic steps. Christmas, Easter, and the set my Grandparents gave us when we got married. Darn!

Willow Ware Royal China.

My favorite! They're melamine, so I constantly have to remind my family: DO NOT put these in the microwave!!

Our every day dishes, from Corelle. I love that pattern on the right. It's so 70's! I just realized I've forgotten another set of Corelle too! You really know you have too many dishes when you don't even know what you have in your cupboard!

We use these melamine plates for the 4th.

I had to have a set of these because my Grandma had them!

My sister gave us this set when we moved in to our house. It was the perfect gift, because I've been a longtime rooster collector! I especially love using these for Thanksgiving.

Fiesta and Harlequin plates. I would love to find a couple more, because I can only use these for us, and not company.

And finally, we have our most priceless collection! McDonalds and Disney plates! The two yellow ones on the left are from when I was a teenager! Well there you have it. You have seen most of my dishes! So tell me....how many sets of dishes do you have??
Update: I just discovered that I forgot to include my Jadite Fire King plates!! What is wrong with me??!
