Did you find a dollhouse under your Christmas tree when you were a little girl? BTW, that's not me in the photo! I don't know exactly when it was that I received mine, but I thought it was high time that I showed it to you!
I spent many an hour playing with this house.
And I took great pleasure in washing all of the furniture. I clearly remember a day when the mean girl next door asked me if I wanted to come over and play. To get out of it, I said "NO, I have to wash my furniture!".
She really was mean, but I got back at her one day by giving her bangs a really bad haircut. I was never asked back, and I was glad! Kids shouldn't be allowed to use scissors unsupervised, should they? Anyway, I enjoyed drying each piece of furniture too.
There's some very nice landscaping on the outside.

C'mon inside! I'd love to show you around.
The living room. Wanna sit beside the fire? Perhaps read a book from the well-stocked library?
Here's the pink bathroom. I love the pattern on the floor, don't you?
I've heard of an open concept floor plan, but this room definitely needs a door!
Next we have the nursery room.
Aren't the graphics on the walls sweet?
The master bedroom. I wanted this room decorated in typical I Love Lucy fashion, and put twin beds in here!
I want a vanity like this one!
Even then, I wanted a red kitchen!
My copper-bottomed Revere Ware pots will never look that shiny.
The laundry room. If mine looked like this, I'd be more than happy to do laundry! Check out the wallpaper border up by the ceiling. Cute, huh?
There's even a sewing machine in there, and the only phone in the house!
The patio. Looks like it could be a great place for a wild party.
It's funny, but I don't remember playing with dolls in this house. Just endlessly rearranging the furniture. But when I opened the bag with all of the furniture in it, I found these wee little dolls.
And a couple of my long-lost Liddle Kiddles! See, I told you. A great place for a wild party!

ReplyDeleteOh Carol, I have the same exact dollhouse!! I did a post last week with it! I have a garden shed with my antiques in it and it is displayed there. Yours in a little better shape. Glas to know someone is a sentimental as me!
ReplyDeleteI never had a dollhouse when I was a kid-I've made up fro that mistake. I did have Liddle Kiddles-I wish I still had them. They are the cuteset things. Your dollhouse is wonderful. Good job on the haircut!

OH! MY! GOD! I think you and I live on the same Memory Lane: "Santa" brought me a dollhouse just like this when I was just a smitch of a smitch! Mr. Claus always came on Christmas Eve at our house. After supper that night, my aunt, gramma, and my sister would go for a drive to look at all the Christmas lights-decorated houses, giving my mom and uncle time to put the new toys and presents under the tree. The year of the dollhouse, our sightseeing was exceptionally long. Everytime my aunt would try to pull back into the driveway, my Knucle Matt would "wave" her on. "Keep driving!" he'd mouth from the livingroom window. There were sooo many metal tabs to insert and fold over on the dollhouse in order to make it just that! It was nearly Christmas day before we were let back into the house. I remember my uncle looking all frazzled and with his hair all messed up like he'd been scratching his head a lot, just like he always did when he was frustrated!. LOL!

I LOVE your dollhouse. I keep watching the one I had as a child on eBay, but I've never bid. I keep thinking to myself...where would I put it? One of these days I might find a place to squeeze it in.

ReplyDeleteThis is funny, I not only have that really nice picnic tin that I found yesterday, and will be looking for more of those, I have a doll house almost like that.I have it set up. They would never be considered child proof now. All those sharp edges.

ReplyDeleteThat is so darling! I had a dollhouse in England that we had to leave behind when we emigrated to Canada. Then my dad made me one when I was in elementary school and I loved it!!! I also spent many hours cleaning my furntire, it was wood so I used my moms furniture polish and I can still remember the smell...ahhh the good old days! My husband already knows making me a new one is on his to-do list:)

I just love and loved doll houses. My cousin (who had everything and more) still has hers which is similar to this one, but I never received one from Santa :-(

ReplyDeleteI had that exact same dollhouse but I have no idea what happened to it! I see one every now and then at antique shows but they are always too expensive or in really bad condition. Yours looks great still!

I had a couple and one was called Skiddiddle Kiddle!I think girls who play with dollhouses grow up to really love their owns homes!

I kept all of my Barbie stuff pristine too, then I gave it to my neice. She ruined it all, and I am so sorry I did. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some happy memories!

Hey Carol, We must be neighbors..or least in the same subdivision;) I too never used dolls in my house...only the furniture and accesories I made for it. The furniture bothered me tho...I wanted real lookin..lol...I'd cut up the Sears catalog..like paperdolls...and taped in more realistic peices. I'm gonna hafta get into my playroom at Mom and Dad's and pull mine out.

I laughed when you said you didn't play with dolls, but just rearranged furniture. I did similar stuff - especially outdoors I would make roads and town designs in the dirt for my brothers' matchbox cars!

ReplyDeleteIn the photo "where it is not you", it looks as if the house is a bigger model... I seem to recognize some Renwal chairs which are 1/16 scale... Is your tiny Marx furniture that came with your house all marked by their logo ? I have the same unmarked furniture and was wondering if they were just copies... They look good quality to me though...
ReplyDeleteI had the same one and also played with my kiddles in the playpen! Lol! Mine also came with, or maybe my mom bought it separately, but I had white planters to set in the front. It actually had seeds, dirt and a tiny watering can. I don’t think anything ever grew but I loved that part so much.
