Weekend Finds

I'm linking up with Junkin' Monday at Cottage Charm and Family Inspiration for the first time!
I went to a garage sale on Friday, run by a woman who was an antique dealer getting out of the business. Her whole home was full of treasures that she was letting go of. I restrained myself, and only bought a few things. I love the vintage Ohio Art Chinese Checkers game, above! As soon as I got home, I ran inside and put it up there with all of my metal picnic baskets, and I think it looks like it belongs there!

I also got this tray. I have a green one just like it. So obviously I needed to buy it, because by golly, if one is good, two or three has got to be better! I'm starting to understand now how my house is bursting at the seams! DO NOT be surprised if you see me on Hoarders one day.

And finally, this great old wastebasket! I've been wanting one for a while, and this one was at a great price. Now if only I can get over the "it's too pretty to put garbage in" thing, it'll look great in the bathroom! I got a few other things at this sale, one of which I've been yearning for. But that will have to wait for another time.

All metal finds, I love 'em! Would you believe I've been hunting for one of those old wastebaskets too? I thought I was a little odd, glad I'm not the only one!

Hi Carol...

Just seen your post pop up on my list and had to come over, my friend!

Ooooh...you found some real treasures, Girl! I love the old Chinese Checkers game! And...I certainly don't blame you for having to have that gorgeous tray...it'll look beautiful in with your other collection! Love the pretty vintage waste basket too! You did GOOD, my friend! I'm so happy for you!!!

I was looking down at some of your other posts. Love your "Old Glory" board and I think it looks so pretty on your newly redone turquoise bench! I love that pretty turquoise color! You were wondering how you might tone it down. You could just take a little brown acrylic paint...water it down...and wipe it all over the bench with a rag...it will give it an "aged" look and is so easy to do! You can control just how much of the glaze that you want on there...a little or alot! Just a thought! The bench is such a pretty way to display the board...great idea, my friend!

Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

Lovely things. Here is a hint for you - probably you already know it - but when you are cleaning and using windex to wipe things down - DON'T use windex or any other cleaner on that cute wastebasket - it will eat the decoration right off (sadly I know this to be true). Enjoy your pretties.

Cool finds! I think so many of us who love to junk end up in biz ourselves because our homes just simply cannot hold everything:o) But we can't stop!

Thanks for stopping by...

I wouldn't want to use that sweet little bin for trash either. I could see it with some fluffy white towels rolled up and standing in it. Or turned upside down and fitted with a lamp kit - what a nice light that would cast. I'm just saying...

Carol, I love all of your metal finds! I always loved Chinese checkers when I was a kid. How come I didn't save all of my old stuff? And that tray is fantastic. I think I would've bought that lady out if I'd been there!

I can see you have restrained yourself with only three items to show us!! I love all your buys especially the bin. It is very pretty and things like that seem to be getting harder to find!

Oh Carol! I don't know how you "restrained" yourself in such thrifty vintage heaven!!! Your finds are gorgeous! Love the painted waste basket especially, although all of these are just GREAT!!!

I used to have one of those metal Chinese checkers games, but I haven't seen it for a while, so I might have gotten rid of it. I love metal trays, too. My house is very crowded, but I hope we never get as bad as the people on the hoarder's show.

Hi Carol,
Neat finds! I live not to far from the Ohio Art plant and was raised with those toys. I don't have any now though except an iron that has definitely seen better days. lol
